Bracknell Manics missed their clubs current top scorer this weekend,
Dennaford was also missing with a rib injury, leaving John Hayward
to start up front alongside fellow striker and good friend, Barry
O'Connell.
For the first 10 minutes Manics were on the back foot as the
manics pair up front struggled to get the ball under control.
But Manics came back into the game after a wake up call, when
the Dukes forward's overhead kick went just wide of goal. John
Hayward was working tirelessly up front, but needed medical treatment
when he received an elbow in the face.
Just before the break Gareth Jones had a chance to take Manics
1-0 up after turning his marker - but shot just wide of goal.
Manics came out hungry for the win in the second half making
one change, Hayward for Gary Sarney. Aaron Goddard, and Elliott
Fairs spurred the team on and everyone in the Manics side switched
into second gear.
Dukes now found themselves on the back foot, and Tony Hemley
and Mark Gates were both pushing up for corners and set pieces
to cause further problems.
20 minutes into the second half, Mark Gates opened up his goal
account with the club, drilling it home from a corner after a
goal mouth scramble, Aaron Goddard doing well to release it in
time to make it 1-0.
5 minutes later and Hemley scored a powerful header from a Joel
Curran corner to make it 2-0.
Manics made two substitutes with 15 minutes remaining, straight
swaps David Comper and Barry O'Connell for James Blackman and
David Fenton.
Minutes later, and Manics centre back Mark Gates gave away a
penalty after a dubious hand ball in the box to make it 2-1.
Just before the end Dukes returned the pressure in Manics direction,
Blackman cleared the ball of the line to keep Manics ahead 2-1
and win the three valuable points.
