Runners-up in First Choice 5-a-side
Tournament
Bracknell Manics FC entered
their fourth and final Summer tournament this weekend, and after recent
dissapointing attempts, finally came out as runners-up on the day. The
side were in disarray over the day which seemed to last an eternity...
James Blackman, David Comper, Steve Dennaford, Glenn Evans, Alan Matthias,
James Robinson and Gary Sarney all worked for eachother, qualifying top
of their group and beating some stiff competition on the way to advance
to the final.
However, more injuries rocked the squad in this tournament... Glenn Evans
was the first Manic to leave, commenting that he couldn't breath properly,
later to find he had a suspected broken rib. Next, James Blackman tore
the ligaments in his knee, meaning he could miss the start of the season.
With no substitutes remaining, Manics prepared for the ultimate opposition;
a team who had not conceded a single goal all competition, and who had
just beat their semi final opposition 5-0 in the previous round.
But Manics took the lead and dented their pride, with a great goal from
Steve Dennaford. Luck wouldnt be with the Manics though as their opposition
equalised with only a second remaining on the clock and taking the game
to penalties; both Alan Matthaius and David Comper failed to score, and
the Manics were content to settle for 2nd place knowing the team had all
worked hard for it.
