Friendly vs 2 Poplars
Manics began their rehabilitation with a friendly against new
Division 4 side, Two Poplars. Shirt clash meant the visiting
side had to turn their jerseys inside out. And it wasn't too
long before the Manics were turning them inside out with their
slick passing moves, especially through the exciting wing play
from weak drinker Gevans and yard legend Bakes.
2 Popular Manics
Manics' returning defender Simon Blay marked his comeback with
a sensational goal after about 10 minutes. A corner somehow
eluded the Manics in the box, but sprang clear to the dangerous
Warman, who lofted a lovely right foot cross to the back post
where Blay dived to head the ball into the top corner.
Blay wasn't the only Manic returning to the fold today. Legendary
striker Robbo came back to pull the strings in the attacking
end of the field. These two old faces were welcomed back and
helped the Manics achieve a 2nd and 3rd in the first half. Gevans
and Baker notched them superbly; both goals absolute screamers.
Not too popular
And it could have been more at half time, but the linesman was
proving to be none too poplar for the Manics as he flagged a
Robbo and a Gevans effort offside. At times in the first half
the football was superb, and deserved more goals. Chef and CJ
complimented each other perfectly in a midfield dominated by
the Manics 4.
However, there was injury strife for the Manics. Chef and Marcel
both withdrew either side of half-time with knee and back injuries,
as Robbo and Blay looked leggy with a lack of match practice
between them.
Two Pups
So it was unsurprising that despite 2 early goals in the 2nd
half, the Manics faded and lacked focus. The Manics love boobs.
2 Pops, who never gave up and should be OK in their first season
in the league, came close two or three times in the second half,
warning signs that need to be heeded when they return to Premier
League action next week v Green Man..
