Green Salvage PoinT

Bracknell Manics extended their unbeaten run in the Premier League to 3 matches with an entertaining 2-2 draw with league leaders Green Man Sunday. However, manager Nikos Patsalides left the ground a disappointed man as the blues in blue had enough chances to win the game.

"Tetchy"

After a tetchy opening few minutes things were very even. It wasn't long before new midfield pairing, Fenton and Blackman started to get a grip on their opposite duo. Breaks down both flanks had caused some degree of panic in the Green Man backline and it was a typically maurauding run and cross from left back Simon Blay that found youngster Chris Hollis, who calmly despatched a left foot effort into the top corner. A goal that was no more than their efforts deserved.

"Wind"

Unable to capitalise on this early advantage, Manics began to sit back. With the swirling wind a constant threat, the back four needed to stay firm and resolute. Which they did, meaning that Green Man's equaliser had to be good to break down Blay, Rain, Adams and Gibson. And it was another pearler, this time Green Man gave the returning Robinson in goal with no chance. 1-1, but the Manics at half time still felt they were the better side. Green Man probably were thinking just the same as both sides were very even.

"Glee turned to toil"

And they proved this on half an hour, with another goal from Bulgarian Beast, Kalin Krumov. After being picked out superbly by a team-mate, Krumov hammered a deadly arrow into the roof of the net only to see his glee turned to toil with the raise of a linesmans flag. Despair, but the Manics still took heart from their solid display at the back and deadliness from counter-attacks. At the same time, Green Man were denied a penalty at the other end of the pitch, as this game began to turn into an end to end thrilling game of football between the pair.

"Anti-Climax"

The second half began with the Manics firmly in control. At times their football was the prettiest they had played all season. One instance in particular the ball went from Gibson and Clowse on the right to Baker and Blay on the left in 10 passes. Something truly sweet against top of the charts. Therefore it was something of an anti-climax when Manics took the lead in the most scrappy of circumstances. A near post drive from Krumov was spilt by the Green Man keeper, a couple of Manics tried to steer it goalwards, only for Lee Blackman to have the serenity to pick his spot and fire it into the corner of the goal. Manics regained their lead. And with it, their glee.

"Needless bickering"

After a couple of minutes of needless bickering, Manics began to lose their shape slightly and the Green Man sniffed they could get back into the game. A long range effort from the earlier Green Man goalscorer grazed a post and their midfield were getting more and more possession. Manics needed to revert back to the way they were playing at the start of the second half. But it wasn't long before another leveller.

"Hopeful Punt"

A long, hopeful punt upfield was not dealt with at all well by the Manics and right winger Brewster popped up to drill a right foot effort past the despairing dive of Robinson. After this goal, Green Man rallied and gave their all for a win that up until that point they had not deserved. Robinson was called into action several times as the league leaders pushed an extra man up front in search of the 3 points.

"Julian Alsop Frame"

Once the Manics had weathered the storm, however, they began to take a real stranglehold on the game. Baker and Clowse began to find their touch and caused problems in the channels. Kirk Hedges came on for a heroic Chris Hollis and showed real muscle in midfield, whilst Dave Fenton was pushed up front where his Julian Alsop type frame gave the Green Man defenders huge problems. Despite hitting the bar twice, having the ball cleared off the line and Fenton missing a gilt-edged one-on-one, Manics had to settle for a draw. Something they would have definitely taken before the game, just on the evidence of the 90 minutes they could have had so much more.
